Neutral Nursery Decor Inspiration

I haven’t officially announced on my blog yet, but I’m pregnant! See our gender reveal video here! I knew I wanted some kind of neutral nursery decor, but wanted it to fit a baby boy. So not necessarily gender neutral for me.

It’s been really fun researching, sourcing, gathering pieces! Although the nursery reveal isn’t quite ready, I wanted to share my neutral nursery decor inspiration and add links to pieces I already have or know that I want.

If you’re decorating your own nursery and want to go for a neutral nursery decor theme, then let this provide you with some inspiration!

I started with key pieces that I knew I loved, that were good quality, timeless, and would last for years, even if I decided to change nursery decor later on for future babies. Let’s just take it one at a time, right??

Crib Choice

When researching cribs, I knew I wanted something quality, well made, with a mid-century modern style. I loved the look of a natural wood, I figured it would be neutral enough to go with any theme, whether boy or girl.

I was so happy to find the brand Oeuf, a sustainable children’s lifestyle brand. They provide beautiful, quality cribs that are built to be handed down.

I chose the Sparrow model in Walnut. I was lucky enough to find this crib second hand, on Facebook Market place – so don’t forget about that as a great resource for some of these investment items!

Safety is important, so for the mattress, I went with the Newton Baby Breathable mattress. To me, the cost was worth the peace of mind knowing baby can breathe if he were to roll over! It is also 100% washable, which I love!

Rocking Chair

I fell in love with this beautiful West Elm glider/rocker and knew I had to have it for my nursery. I’m going to be spending a lot of time in this chair, so I knew it was something that was going to be worth splurging on. Again, I was able to find this second hand in brand new condition. The deals are out there!

I wanted to add touches of gray to compliment the warm wood tones of the crib, and thought this would be the perfect touch to our neutral nursery decor!

The glider and ottoman are sold separately. Mine is in the color Dove Gray, performance velvet.

Neutral Rug

For the nursery rug, I really wanted something that had great texture, but kept the neutral nursery theme going. I like the look of bold black and white, but didn’t want anything too overwhelming.

I chose this Godalming Area Rug from Boutique Rugs. Boutique Rugs regularly offers 60% off coupons, so don’t pay full price!

Dresser/Changing Table

This was an easy decision for us. We love Ikea’s Hemnes collection, and have it in gray in our master bedroom. I wanted something white, to brighten up the room. Our baby will be able to use this well-made piece for a long time, and will provide plenty of storage! We will add a diaper changing tray on top.

Other Neutral Decor, Art, and Accessories

To tie it all together and complete my neutral nursery decor theme for baby boy, I’m planning to add a world map from Etsy. I love the animal theme, and think it’s so cute. It has all the tones I’m looking for, warm woods, grays, blacks, tans. We loved the idea of a subtle adventure theme, so this fits the bill!

I already had this wire blanket basket, so I thought it would be perfect to hold baby boys snuggly blankets! I think something rattan would also be really cute – anything with that neutral tone and material.

Every baby needs their special stuffed animal, or “stuffy” as my nephews call it! They picked out this special fox for Baby Nuff. I love it and I think he will too!

I don’t know for sure if this is the lamp I’ll go with, but I can usually find a cute lamp I like at Target without breaking the bank. I like the idea of a natural wood tone reflected in the lamp.

This is a wishlist item – it looks so cozy! I’ve heard amazing things about the Barefoot Dreams blankets. I may find something else, but wanted to include it here, because I think it is so pretty!

This is just the beginning, and I’m sure I’ll add more as I go along, but I do like to keep things somewhat minimal. I already have some curtains I’m planning to re-use!

Remember, inspiration doesn’t mean you have to copy everything or love everything. Look for ideas that inspire, whether it is this, or something else, and ask yourself how you can make it your own!
