Amika Hair Product Review

Let’s talk hair products. I struggle with very fine hair, that is half curly and half straight, making it almost impossible to style without the use of some type of heat styling. I first learned about Amika hair products a few years ago and tried their Un.Done texture spray (Amazon affiliate link) on a whim, purchasing off Amazon.  I remember it being a game changer. Finally there was something that gave my fine hair a little more grip and allowed it to be styled easily!

Fast forward to my wedding. The stylist, Penny, that I went to used Amika products on my hair for my wedding. Side note – If you are needing a styIist in the Waco, TX area, Penny is incredible! Seriously, my hair never felt so soft and voluminous! The next month I ordered the Wizard Spray, which has the most amazing smell. I really can’t even describe it – it smells like rainbows and vanilla and good feelings. The bottle has Sea Buckthorn ingredient listed, which I think is what smells so good. I think I’m actually addicted to the smell.

About the Amika Hair Product company

Amika is a professional line of hair care and styling products based out of Brooklyn, NY. As stated on their website, all of their products are “vegetarian-friendly, cruelty-free and
free from sulfates, MIT, MCI, Phthalates and artificial colors.” They include their signature Sea Buckthorn Berry in every product. I can’t tell you how impressed I have been with the quality of these products. Even their packaging provides an very fun and pleasant experience.

Here are the products that I purchased:

  1. Velveteen Dream Shampoo and Conditioner

This shampoo and conditioner makes my hair so soft and shiny. It is sulfate free, which is important for my fine hair. I cannot use anything that is too harsh. The conditioner is silky smooth and leaves your hair feeling gorgeous and easy to comb through.

  1. Wizard Multi-Benefit Primer

THIS product is my saving grace! It is a very light oil in a spray bottle. Most oil primers are way to heavy for my hair and leave it feeling greasy, but not this one! Somehow it always absorbs perfectly and brushing and styling my hair is 10X easier. I have even noticed fewer split ends since using this product. Magic? Maybe! It is a Wizard after all…

  1. The Shield Style Extending Spray

I have not had a chance to use this product as much as the others, but so far i like it a lot! It has a faintly vanilla smell, and again, is not super heavy. My hair never feels weighed down, but it still feels like it is adding another layer of protection for my delicate hair against high heat from my Chi straightening iron (Amazon link – I chose this one because it has a temperature control feature!) and hairdryer.

  1. Un.Done Volume and Matte and Texture Spray

If I could only buy one product from amika, it would be the Wizard Primer, but this sure comes in a close second! I struggle to get volume in my flat hair, and this really gives extra hold and makes my hair feel more voluminous but still soft and touchable.

  1. Triple Rx Conditioner

I like to use this conditioner as a mask once a week, for extra moisture and softness. amika actually carries a mask version of this product, which is what I thought I was purchasing..haha. But this one is also super thick and works well for me!

Amika has recently re-done the packaging on some of their products, so the products pictured here are actually the old product packaging. I think all of their packaging is so incredibly cute, and they have improved it even more with their new packaging, changing some of the colors of different items!
